Navigating Mom Guilt (Without Letting It Run the Show)

July 03, 20252 min read

Let's be real—no one warned us how sneaky mom guilt could be.

At work, it whispers, "You're missing too much." At home, it nags, "You should be working harder."

You feel like you're constantly coming up short—but you're not. You're doing more than enough. And most importantly: you're not alone.

Here's how to quiet the guilt, one honest moment at a time:

1. Guilt is a feeling, not a fact. Just because you feel guilty doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong.

Guilt often shows up when you care deeply, not because you're failing, but because you're trying so hard to do right by everyone.

2. Choose presence over perfection.

You don't have to be everything to everyone. (No one is.)

What matters most is being present when it counts.

Put the phone down during dinner. Make eye contact during the bedtime story.

Those small pockets of real connection? They stick.

3. Create simple, meaningful rituals. You don't need hours of Pinterest-worthy activities.

A five-minute dance party. A silly bath-time song. I sing to my baby every night as we wind down for sleep. Our greatest hits?

🎵 You Are My Sunshine, Twinkle Twinkle, and The Ants Go Marching.

It's short, simple, and sacred—and it means the world to both of us.

4. Talk about it. Really talk. Open up to someone you trust—a friend, a partner, a fellow mom in the preschool pickup line. Say the scary stuff out loud.

You'll be surprised how often the response is: "Me too."

5. Redefine what success looks like today.

Some days, success is landing a big client.

On other days, it is remembering to thaw the chicken and giving one solid hug before bedtime.

Both matter. Both are enough.

Mom guilt doesn't mean you're failing. It means you care. The goal isn't to erase it—it's to move through it with compassion and clarity.

You're not falling behind. You're showing up. In work, in motherhood, in life. And that? That's enough.
